We address factory managers and production engineers directly, and thus ensure coverage of the decision makers within the industry.

The perfect combination

The perfect combination of flexibility, high performance and cost efficiency The Weinig Group, with its two brands Weinig and Holz-Her, will be presenting groundbreaking solutions for these focus topics at LIGNA 2023. True to its motto “Weinig offers more”, the company invites visitors to experience an all-round view of its extensive range of machines, systems, software and services – for the production of single workpieces through to automated series production of solid wood and panel products. The innovations and developments are focused on resource optimization, ranging from individual technology solutions for machines to innovative, full-fledged production systems. Stand-alone or networked machines with efficient material handling, precise automation and resource-saving production technologies enable customers to economically manufacture products of the highest quality and in flexible batch sizes despite the shortage in skilled labor. Save time and material with AI The CombiScan Sense scanner scans up to 80 boards per minute to detect cracks, knots, etc. To check the quality of the wood, the scanner uses artificial intelligence, making detection more accurate, reliable and repeatable. The scanner enables line automation and thus a reduction of the required manpower. It saves between 3 and 10 % material, depending on the application. Planing and profiling The new Hydromat – robust, flexible, intuitive and with record speed With a feed speed of 400 m/min and WMC machine control, the new Hydromat high-speed moulder brings innovative dynamics to planing and profiling processes. Customers in the wood industry, such as sawmills that process sawn timber, benefit from this robust, highly durable, high performance machine. On the one hand, the machine offers features such as the innovative wood saving system to optimize chip removal and save material during pre-planing. On the other hand, the machine can be flexibly equipped for the production of profiled goods. Hydromat 3000: Robust, wear-resistant, powerful and fast With a feed speed of up to 100 m/min and its user-friendliness, the Hydromat 3000 scores in the further processing of sawn timber, e.g. into tongue-and-groove boards, decking boards and mouldings. CNC-controlled adjustment does not require manual intervention, which means that even less qualified employees can operate the machine. The central dashboard of the control system is customizable and can be operated intuitively. The Weinig trade fair highlight: Large-scale systems and innovations in wood processing Systems engineering is increasingly becoming the focus of Weinig. The highlights at LIGNA are: • an optimizing cross-cut line with an OptiCut 450 Quantum cross-cut saw, connected to a finger jointing line and robot stacking • a ProfiPress C 2500 HF gluing press for the production of wooden panels Large-scale system: Scanning, cross-cutting, finger jointing This fully automated system shows the production process from raw material to fingerjointed lamellas: A robot with a vacuum unit stacks raw material onto the line. The workpieces are evaluated by means of a CombiScan Sense scanner. Defects are cut out by the highspeed OptiCut 450 Quantum cross-cut saw and the good parts are automatically fed to the downstream HS 200 finger jointing line for further processing. The mechanization for direct feeding of the finger jointing line via the cross-cut saw is patent pending. The wood is cut to the required length using the OptiCut 450 Quantum high-speed cross-cut saw. The VarioStroke sawing unit of the OptiCut 450 Quantum can be flexibly adjusted to eight different cutting positions, enabling very short cutting times for all cross-sections within the maximum cutting range. Also, the perfected saw blade bearing and the unique saw blade guidance improve the cutting quality, even at high cut ting frequencies: Thanks to its dynamic infeed unit and feed rollers that are individually controlled from above, the workpieces are always safely guided. Then the finger jointing line is loaded fully automatically. The Non Plus Ultra for the industrial production of solid wood panels For customers who need to produce solid wood panels cost-efficiently at high output, the ProfiPress C 2500 HF, one of the fastest gluing presses in the world, can be seen in live operation at the exhibition. Up to 100 lamellas per minute are glued at the edge, collected and continuously pushed into the press. The super-efficient high-frequency heating system ensures fast curing of the glue joints without heating the wood. The result is tension-free, edge-glued solid wood panels with the highest joint and surface quality. The possibility of endless gluing in combination with a cross-cut saw after the press, for cutting the glued panel to required width, ensures optimum wood utilization. www.weinig.com 6 No. 2 • May 2023

Focus on automation For Reichenbacher Hamuel, the focus at LIGNA is on automation, and the machine manufacturer is demonstrating how this can be advanced in woodworking and especially in timber construction with individualised machine concepts. With a view to efficient automated production, the VISION-III machining centre with automatic carrier table will be presented, which is loaded by a KUKA robot. Intelligent concepts will be on the agenda, regardless of whether they are for the production of walls, ceilings, roof trusses, stairs or doors. The live demonstrations at LIGNA will show step machining, where a robot picks up blanks from a stack of blanks and automatically loads the machine. After a step cut and various saw cuts, milling and drilling will take place and at the end the robot will automatically stack the finished steps. There are many levels of automation. The goal must be for companies to increase their efficiency on existing production space and make themselves less dependent on the skilled labour market. Individual solutions are in demand, because there are users who are active in purely regional construction projects and need different concepts than industrial companies that go into high-rise construction or that concentrate on the production of special components. The market has set in motion a development in which, for example, companies are gearing their production to manufacture large and heavy panels not only for their own building projects, but also to make them available to other market participants. At LIGNA, Reichenbacher will be taking up another innovative topic with additive manufacturing. In order to bring this closer to the trade visitors, 3D printing of wooden components will be presented by means of informative videos and the quality of such components will be illustrated by means of printed exhibits. www.reichenbacher.de WOODVibes.
