MACHINING TECHNOLOGY A

MACHINING TECHNOLOGY A long-awaited return … Giardina Group returned to Xylexpo with a clear desire to show off all the work it has done over the last few difficult years. A challenging time, but one that also brought great satisfaction and was a valuable opportunity to reflect on one’s own business activities and to undertake new initiatives. One of the focal points of the 2022 edition of Xylexpo: “Dualtech Forma“. A specific entrepreneurial path, starting with the decision to breathe new life into Destefani, one of the best known Italian brands in edge and profile sanding, and culminating in the Italian Group’s latest and greatest adventure, a partnership with Pininfarina that marks the beginning of a new season, the first accomplishment of which is the brand new “Dualtech Forma” automatic spraying machine, unveiled in Milan on 12th October as a world premiere. At Xylexpo, Giardina Group had a stand that showcased the Group’s two current focal points: coating and sanding. For coating, Giardina Group unveiled in Milan – alongside the aforementioned, iconic “Dualtech Forma” – the “2VE” profile spraying machine, which, completely redesigned, is already achieving outstanding success in the finishing of solid wood elements. In the spotlight is the brand new “Flexi Roll”, which combines the search for the highest coating quality with the increasingly urgent need to optimise costs and reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere, a technology – available in various configurations – that achieves significant results in the treatment of not only flat, but also three-dimensional surfaces. “Thanks to the new “Flexi Roll”, we have been able to develop a new production process that can be integrated into our already wide range of roller coaters and with drying technology – commented Stefano Tibè, Sales Manager of the Group – and we are confident that this technology can provide new insights into the coating cycles of those surfaces for which, until now, spray coating was very often preferred”. A process that will be seen fully operational at Xylexpo. With regards to sanding, Destefani exhibited several solutions in Milan, including the “MVT 4000” single-side edge sanding machine, in a particularly effective configuration that makes it perfect for sanding the edges of MDF panels, chipboard and coated elements. Not far behind will be the “MVS 2500”, the smallest profile sander in the “MVS” range, an authentic masterpiece by Destefani, designed and manufactured for sanding frames, poles, strips, elements of door and window frames, veneers, solid wood elements and unfinished or treated MDF parts. But the real innovation that Destefani proposed in Milan is the “MVS Floor” profile brushing/sanding machine equipped to be particularly effective in machining wooden floor elements, guaranteeing excellent levels of finish not only on the sides, but also on the top surface of the element, creating three-dimensional effects increasingly sought after on the market, which can be obtained extremely easily with this machine. Automatic spraying machine designed by Pininfarina Considerable interest was raised by the launch of the new “Dualtech Forma” automatic spraying machine designed by Pininfarina, undoubtedly one of the focal points of the 2022 edition of Xylexpo. Giardina Group has chosen Pininfarina, a name that does not need any introduction, to create a new machine that strongly demonstrates the Italian Group’s desire to expand its business worldwide. “Dualtech Forma” is the culmination of the close collaboration between the two companies that are true emblems of the Made in Italy mark and know-how around the world, a relationship born from sharing the same innovation, research and customer care values. Pininfarina, with its manufacturing background and in-depth multidisciplinary expertise in various sectors, was chosen by Giardina Group to give a distinctive boost to its strategies, with its energy, creativity, and unmistakable quality of design that is not merely aesthetic, but is also a strong contribution to the industrialisation of a product which is both technically advanced and iconic, unique, exclusive and recognisable. “We are convinced that this first machine developed together, unveiled as a world premiere at Xylexpo 2022, represents not only a milestone in the collaboration between the two companies, but also for the coating industry”, commented Fabio Calorio, Head of UX&ID Sales and Global Brand Extension di Pininfarina. The partnership between the two companies is intended to forge new directions in terms of design, production and brand growth, in a vision that sees “Dualtech Forma” as the flagship project, the top of the range product capable of paving the way for new machines that will strengthen Giardina Group’s position among the leaders in coating technologies and solutions. www.giardinagroup.com Perfect for sanding the edges of MDF panels chipboard and coated elements: “MVT 4000” single-side edge sanding machine. 26 No. 4 • November 2022

SAFETY Isolation systems Explosion isolation should not be missing in a safety concept Explosion isolation is essential for comprehensive explosion protection. Without isolation, an explosion safety concept is not only incomplete, but is also a waste of money for operators as: In almost every production facility, individual plant components are interconnected by means of pipelines. The purpose of explosion isolation is to seal these pipelines in the event of an explosion to prevent the propagation of pressure and flames, thereby protecting the adjacent plant components. Precompression and flame jet ignition increase the severity of the explosion in the connected vessels. This leads to secondary explosions that can cause even more catastrophic damage. Isolation systems prevent an explosion from propagating, thereby reducing the effects of the explosion to a minimum. Adjacent system components are optimally protected. A distinction is made between active and passive isolation systems: Active systems use sensors or detectors to detect an explosion as it occurs by registering the rising pressure or flames as they form and activate the associated isolation device, e.g. a quench valve. Due to their structural design, passive isolation systems react purely mechanically to a propagation or loss of pressure. The latter also applies to explosion isolation flap valve. They are kept open during normal mode by means of the currents present in the pipeline. In the event of an explosion, the valve closes due to the propagating pressure front, effectively preventing the further propagation of pressure and flames. Explosion isolation using quench valves: EXKOP system The EXKOP system offers safe, economical and simple isolation of explosions, sparks and flames. By closing within milliseconds, quench valves protect interconnected system parts. In the event of an explosion, the EXKOP control system receives a trigger signal. The entire system is fail-safe thanks to an integrated pressure accumulator and a selfmonitoring control system. After triggering, the quench valves are ready for use again at the touch of a button. Plant downtimes can thus be reduced to a minimum. The compact design from DN 80 to DN 600 enables flexible integration into your production process. Explosion isolation due to slide valves The slide valves RSV and REDEX Slide enable silos, mills and extraction systems to be safely isolated and are also available for challenging CIP, dust or gas applications. Both slide valves are suitable for abrasive media. Explosions are reliably detected by pressure and/or infrared detectors installed in the plants to be protected and a signal is sent to the slide valve. This activates one or more gas generators, which close the slide valves. Flames and pressure waves are thus unable to propagate. Explosion isolation flap valve Q-Flap RX – Isolation of raw gas lines to filters and dust collectors The explosion isolation flap valve Q-Flap RX is offered in three different designs. The nominal widths from DN 140 to DN 710 have an in- Explosion isolation flap valve Q-Flap RX spection flap, while the largest nominal widths (up to DN 1000) have a modular structure to make maintenance as easy as possible. The Q-Flap RX is suitable, among other things, for the aspiration lines of filtering dust collectors and the suction lines of mills. Alongside the stated features, the non-return valve Q-Flap RX allows for high K St values, flexible installation distances and the highest strengths. Explosion Isolation with chemical barriers The explosion isolation system Q-Bic registers the emerging explosion and extinguishes the developing explosion flames within milliseconds by applying the extinguishing powder. The extinguishing powder is optimally distributed in the pipeline via a nozzle system and guarantees reliable isolation. The chemical barrier is particularly well-suited to applications in elevators and spray dryers. Conclusion Explosion isolation system Q-Bic Explosion isolation systems form part of the measures for explosion protection and are a must in every safety concept for process engineering plants such as silos, mills, filters and conveyors. www.rembe.de Quench valves open and closed The experts from REMBE ® GmbH Safety+Control will be happy to help you to select the “right” measures at any time.
