LIGNA.Innovation Network DIPA Symposium 2021 New impulses for individual surface design with digital printing Under the motto “Create your own surface“, the second symposium of the DIPA Association for Individual Surface Design with Digital Printing (Digital Printing Association) took place on September 29. The DIPA conference program was aimed at companies that are already successfully using digital printing, suppliers of machinery or consumables and other service providers that support the creation of a customized surface, companies that sell customized surfaces – from major furniture brands to cabinetmakers and carpenters as well as decor designers – but also those that are just beginning to think about using the technology. The event did not provide a mere state-bystate description of the market and technologies, but rather provided each of the attendees interested in digital printing in surface technology with an insight and overview of the complete range of aspects and technologies to look out for in order to make a project a success, regardless of company size. In the three thematic blocks “Inks & Chemistry”, “Decor Design & Development” and “Technology & Software“, aspects of modern digital surface decoration were shown. In the age of Industry 4.0, decor production systems and markets are networked, transparent, supportive and decentralized. The entire ecosystem was highlighted: Decor development and design, production and e-commerce workflows, business models, market trends. The decor industry in 2021 is a digitized, connected, connected industry, and attendees were shown how it works and how to become part of the ecosystem. The ”Inks & Chemistry“ section focused, among other things, on digital décor inks, which are an important part of the digital production process. They guarantee the robustness of the sustainable end product and are a crucial factor in meeting environmental standards. The ”Decor Design & Development“ thematic block looked at how designs are created, marketed and produced, and what today‘s designers need to look for in the development process. A decor product always starts with a clever decor design, the factor that drives creativity and margin of the final application. The third part, “Technology & Software,“ highlighted digital printing systems in the digital age - the nuts and bolts of production. This is where the ink meets the substrate and value is created. The contribution of software, whether in print data creation or modern eCommerce workflows, was also discussed in this part of the symposium. The event brought together experts and users to shed light on these developments in digital printing, report on their experiences and provide space for exchange. The next DIPA conference will be held at the end of 2022. www.ligna.de ZOW 2022 as an Innovation incubator Business hub in a crucial position for the European furniture industry Climate change, digitalisation, the coronavirus pandemic, price explosions and supply chain collapses - rarely have we faced so many challenges and such a great need for action. After two years of social distancing, the furniture and interior design industry is eager to meet face to face to exchange ideas about these and other challenges, to find joint solutions and make a dynamic start to the new year together. ZOW, the supplier trade fair for the furniture and interior design industry, hosted from 8 to 10 February 2022 in Bad Salzuflen in East Westphalia-Lippe, provides the perfect forum for doing all of this. In one of the strongest furniture regions in the world, suppliers network with the furniture and interior construction industry, allowing new ideas and paths to success to emerge. “ZOW will be the first major in-person event in two years for this sector in Germany, and it will have a European appeal. This is why I’m firmly convinced that the next ZOW will send a strong signal about the industry’s immense capacity for innovation to the European market,” says Maik Fischer, Director of ZOW. After the experiences of the last two years, which have been defined by the pandemic, ZOW is the perfect place for companies to evaluate their position in the market. For visitors from the furniture industry, the trade fair is the ideal opportunity to fine-tune their choice of partners because they will finally be able to compare concepts and products in depth at the event again. Face-to-face conversations will then lay the groundwork for their future innovations. The next ZOW will therefore no doubt serve many visitors as an opportunity to determine their position in the light of the intense pressure to produce innovations and the tremendous demand for extraordinary new and smart product solutions that they face. This pressure is due in no small part to interzum, the world’s leading trade fair for furniture industry suppliers, having been restricted to a virtual format in 2021. ZOW 2022 will therefore build exactly the bridges that suppliers need to all the furniture manufacturers and interior designers that want to showcase new lines and collections at imm cologne and LivingKitchen 2023 so that they are ready to serve the markets, which will have recovered by then. www.koelnmesse.com 30 No. 4 • October 2021

fairs HOLZ-HANDWERK 2022 under starter’s orders From Tuesday 29 March until Friday 1 April 2022, the trade fair will have a new weekday schedule for the first time, but as always will run parallel to FENSTERBAU FRONTALE. The trade fair organisers in Nuremberg are eagerly anticipating the event: “In 2022 we finally get to ‘Discover. Experience. Do’ again, in keeping with our slogan! After 1,466 days, this gathering will give representatives of the industry the opportunity to talk face-to-face with one another for the first time after the crisis and explore the pioneering concepts and innovations that have resulted in the interim,” says Stefan Dittrich, Director of HOLZ-HANDWERK. In 2020 the trade fair pairing HOLZ-HANDWERK and FENSTERBAU FRONTALE was one of the first exhibitions that had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “In our conversations with customers we are getting a lot of positive signs that the industry is looking forward. In 2022 we plan to once again provide the familiar blend of specific technical problem-solving and personal networking and hope to inspire our exhibitors and visitors with the typical hands-on atmosphere of HOLZ-HANDWERK!” A concept that has stood the test of time over 20 rounds HOLZ-HANDWERK covers all products and technologies relevant to the everyday work of wood processing companies and is therefore the must-do event every two years for joiners, carpenters, specialist dealers and experts in furnituremaking and interior fittings. The products on display range from woodworking machinery, power tools and pneumatic tools, software, fixing systems, hardware, construction elements and fitted systems to timber and engineered wood. At the previous event in 2018, more than 110,000 visitors learned about the latest trends and topics affecting their respective industries at the parallel fairs HOLZ-HANDWERK and FENSTERBAU FRONTALE. The main reasons given by visitors for attending HOLZ-HANDWERK were to broaden their professional knowledge and get information on product innovations. HOLZ-HANDWERK will take place for the 20th time in 2022 and will be jointly organised by the VDMA’s Woodworking Machinery Association and NürnbergMesse GmbH. The co-sponsor of the event is the Bavarian Carpentry Association (FSH). www.holz-handwerk.de High commitment of renowned manufacturers of hard floor coverings Important European brand manufacturers have already expressed their support for DOMOTEX 2022, and their participation underscores the glo-bal significance of DOMOTEX. It is already becoming apparent that the 33rd edition of the world’s leading trade show for carpets and floor coverings, which will take place from 13 to 16 January 2022, will be a strong and innovative event. Renowned brand manufacturers from the hard floor coverings segment agree that DOMOTEX in Hannover must remain the industry and networking platform as the leading international trade show, and that they are teaming up to create an exceptional showcase for the European flooring industry. With the introduction of the two labels “Floor & Wall” and “Carpets & Rugs”, DOMOTEX will highlight the importance of the two thematic worlds from 2022 onwards. The show consists not only of the incredibly divere world of carpets, but equally important many companies of the hard flooring industry are exhibitors at DOMOTEX. Strong label “Floor & Wall” highlights the importance of the hard floor segment With the introduction of the label “Floor & Wall” DOMOTEX will be highlighting the importance of the hard floor segment in particular by giving an own identity to it. From 2022 onwards, DOMOTEX is taking a closer look at wall solutions, which are an ideal match as complementary products for floor coverings. The inspiration for this new direction was born on the initiative of a working group of some of Europe’s leading hard flooring manufacturers, which has met regularly since spring 2020 under the auspices of DOMOTEX. The participants in this working group are managing directors of well-known European manufacturers in the hard flooring industry and important DACH flooring industry associations. “COVID-19 has changed our lives forever. Digital meetings have been replacing face-to-face meetings for 15 months now. More and more people and business partners long for a direct and personal exchange with us. At the same time, we have all gained a greater appreciation of our homes and as a result the long-anticipated renovation business is currently flourishing, and will hopefully continue to do so in the years ahead.” says Klaus Brammertz, CEO and President of Bauwerk Group. ”Deutsche Messe AG has fundamentally revised the DOMOTEX concept and created a basis for DOMOTEX 2022 to be highly attractively positioned in terms of timing and to bring with it the prerequisites in terms of content to become an ideal platform for our industry. With this in mind, we are looking forward to our participation and hope to see as many like-minded people as possible,” continues Brammertz. From next year on, DOMOTEX will take place from Thursday to Sunday. This means that DOMOTEX 2022 will kick off on January 13 and remain open until January 16. www.domotex.de No. 4 • October 2021 31
