LIGNA.Innovation Network

LIGNA.Innovation Network The latest from SCM at LIGNA.Innovation Network Technologies for the widest range of application fields in the woodworking industry Digitalisation, automation and eco-sustainability are the three main features found in all the solutions that SCM presented at the digital event. From stand-alone technologies to plants, all the latest products from the Group have been designed to further increase the productivity of our business partners, simplifying their everyday work even in flexible and more complex processes and keeping costs down, by reducing the amount of space occupied in the factory, machining times and margins of error. The new Smart&Human Factory is an example of this and was at the centre of discussion during one of the in-depth Forums at LIGNA.Innovation Network: SCM‘s user-friendly digital factory expands to further meet the demands of “batch 1“ production. Automated flexible, modular and easily reconfigurable cells, integrated by industrial articulated and cooperative robots and intelligent unmanned shuttles, programmable according to the production unit layout, capable of moving and working alongside the operator in total safety. Cells that can be put together to suit your needs and satisfy the most varied machining and spatial demands. The ideal solution to achieving the dream of a single factory, a single storage warehouse, and a single assembly, packing and shipping area by simplifying production and logistics needs as much as possible. SCM Surface Technologies for ever more exclusive finishing solutions The extensive offer of dmc technologies for sanding, sergiani for pressing and superfici for finishing is further enhanced with new devices and models to offer all-round products and services as well as sophisticated finishing solutions. Pressing Taking centre stage, we find the sergiani pressing solutions for the lamination of panels with 3D surfaces and the production of blockboard panels. The sergiani 3d form and sergiani 3d form hp presses can satisfy any production demand in the versions with a single manual tray and right up to the one with three automatic trays that cut the cycle time to just the pressing time for any kind of machining. This can be achieved with both high gloss coatings and more complex three-dimensional shapes, guaranteeing a product of unparalleled quality. Also on display is the sergiani gsl-a, press for continuous production of blockboard panels with automatic loading/unloading to guarantee high flexibility and productivity. Highly configurable to meet customer’s demands, it presents different blockboard loading solutions and the option of adding pneumatic stops to create multi-row panels. Sanding The latest dmc products receiving their world preview at LIGNA.IN are easy-to-use solutions with high productivity and keep in mind the specific needs of the individual customer, especially research into high quality finishing and an improved user experience in production cycles. Absolute protagonist is the new “eye-S” control panel of the dmc sd that, as of January 2022, will replace the LOGIC SC and PRO-SAND electronic control panels. Another new entry is the brand new planetary unit on dmc eurosystem designed to create any kind of finishing effects. Lastly, the carving unit, on the top-of-the-range dmc system sanding machines to achieve sophisticated threedimensional effects. Finishing Key player is the new Superfici compact xl sprayer designed to satisfy a higher production capacity and ensure a perfect handling of the overspray in the spraying booth. Combined with the excimatt innovative excimer UV system, exclusive “soft touch” effects can be achieved as well as maximum surface and scratch-free resistance. Also completely new is the valtorta bravo 2, the 2-arm Cartesian robot, designed to halve spraying times without sacrificing excellent quality. The 7-axis (extendible to 11) maestro robot, developed for windows and doors painting lines, has also been updated: new devices and software for an even faster change of colour, ideal for “batch 1” production needs. www.scmgroup.com 28 No. 4 • October 2021

LIGNA.Innovation Network WEIMA at the LIGNA.Innovation Network Flexible shredding solution for all types of waste wood While the pandemic has slowed down many industries, the woodworking and wood processing industries remain in the fast lane and are continuing to produce at full speed despite the growing shortage of raw materials. The order books in the wood construction and furniture industries have been packed full for months. And where wood is being diligently planed, sawn and milled in furniture workshops and carpentry shops, wood waste that has to be disposed of is inevitably produced. At the digital LIGNA. Innovation Network on September 27-29, WEIMA showed you how best to deal with it. The focus was on sustainable recycling solutions for subsequent energy generation. The disposal of wood waste is all too often seen as a necessary and costly evil. With holistic solution concepts, WEIMA, the Ilsfeld shredder specialist, demonstrates that small and medium-sized craft businesses as well as large industrial companies can return a profit from their waste wood both for the environment as well as for their own business result. WEIMA WLK 1500 single-shaft shredder With the WEIMA WLK 1500 single-shaft shredder, WEIMA offers a flexible universal machine. Designed for high throughputs, the shredder easily shreds all types of hardwoods and softwoods, scrap wood, OSB and MDF waste, veneer, plywood, stairs, doors and even entire pallets. Their nails and screws are simply shredded with them and can then be separated with an overbelt magnet or a magnetic drum. Downstream machines such as hammer mills and briquetting presses are thereby protected. Optimum wood waste recycling With a working width of 1,500 mm and a rotor diameter of 368 mm, the versatile shredder shreds waste wood to a uniform grain size. If required, the shredded wood chips can then be pressed using a WEIMA briquetting press. The briquettes Shredding process of a pallet with a WEIMA WLK 1500 single-shaft shredder can be sold for a profit but are also suitable for combustion in a company’s own heating systems. Alternatively, wood chips can also be used directly as fuel to heat buildings and large halls. Wood chip combustion is particularly sustainable, as one is relying on existing waste wood and avoiding additional deforestation. www.weima.com New feature for the “Factory of the Future“ Intelligent steel belt monitoring In the “Factory of the Future” digital concepts are needed which design production processes intelligently and efficiently. In a livestreaming session at the LIGNA.Innovation Network Siempelkamp demonstrated which concepts and tools are available for wood-based panel producers. New: the intelligent 24/7 steel belt monitoring, which detects steel belt damage in the early stages and reduces downtimes. Smart, flexible, individual, efficient and sustainable - that’s what the wood-based panel production of tomorrow is supposed to be like. This “Factory of the Future” will not work without a digital, intelligent network that integrates all components of a plant. Elias Sabaghi, Sales Manager Siempelkamp Logistics & Service GmbH (SLS), and Tobias Aretz, Software Engineer at Siempelkamp Maschinenund Anlagenbau GmbH, used the LIGNA livestreaming to illustrate the tools and concepts Siempelkamp uses to think ahead to such intelligent production. A central element is the modular control technology system Prod-IQ ® which provides reliable key figures in real time across the entire value chain of the wood-based panel plant – from production and quality management to maintenance and repair. The Siempelkamp Condition Monitoring System SCMS also stands for smart data management which enables predictive maintenance, optimizes the scope and timing of maintenance work, and avoids unplanned downtimes. New: The intelligent 24/7 steel belt monitoring At LIGNA 2021 Siempelkamp presented another feature for the “Factory of the Future”: intelligent steel belt monitoring. Optimally running steel belts are a central prerequisite for the maximum performance, plant efficiency and productivity of a wood-based panel plant. Until now, timeconsuming manual inspections were necessary when signs of wear or malfunctions occurred – or changes in the steel belt sometimes remained unnoticed for too long In order to tap into a reliable solution for this, Siempelkamp developed a digital monitoring process which tracks the functionality of the steel belt around the clock - essential in order to be able to react immediately if necessary. Damage and material buildup are detected at full production speed. In real time, the steel belt monitoring system provides information on damage and material buildup and shows the exact position, size and time of occurrence. The advantages for the plant operator: downtimes are reduced, planning reliability and product quality are increased. Detected early, minor damage to the belt can be repaired quickly and easily, even before more extensive damage develops. The spread of build-up and the associated maintenance effort are also significantly reduced with earlier detection. With this concept Siempelkamp provides a new, decisive smart data tool for the self-optimizing wood- based panel plant! www.siempelkamp.com No. 4 • October 2021 29
