SURFACES Excellent

SURFACES Excellent atomization for small areas WAGNER completes the product family of airspray guns with a gravity cup gun that enables highquality coating results and efficient material consumption especially for small-area applications. In addition to the automatic model TOPFINISH GA 1020/1030, the product family of WAGNER airspray guns also includes the manual gun TOPFINISH GM 1030P with paint connection. The new TOPFINISH GM 1030G with gravity cup can also be used for a wide range of applications in a wide variety of industrial sectors, such as the wood, metal or plastics industries. Flexible application possibilities For flexible processing of low- to high-viscosity materials with a high solids content, the GM 1030G, just like the GM 1030P, has a nozzle with a maximum material passage of 9 mm. All components in contact with the material are made of durable stainless steel. Solvent-resistant seals allow uncomplicated use of the gun with both water- and solvent-based materials. Depending on the application, a wide range of proven air caps, nozzle sizes and other accessory components can be used, each of which is also compatible with the GA 1020/1030 and GM 1030P models. The different hard plastic cups can be used several times. Proven technology for efficient results Just like the GM 1030P, the new gravity cup variant also produces an extremely uniform spray pattern thanks to various functions. The optimized air channel ensures very low paint mist and saves material consumption. For process-reliable coating with a consistent material flow rate, the GM 1030G is equipped with a fixable needle stroke adjustment. “This additionally optimizes material use. Overall, an application efficiency of up to 88 % can be achieved during coating,” reports Peter Neu, Senior Product Manager at WAGNER. The large material and air passages of the components also support perfect atomization and at the same time allow very fast working. Durable components & easy operation As with all other WAGNER guns, great importance has been attached to a long service life and easy handling of the GM 1030G. Thanks to the twopart nozzle, consisting of nozzle head and nozzle nut, it is sufficient to replace only the nozzle head when necessary instead of replacing the complete nozzle. But that’s not the only reason for a significant reduction in the cost of wearing parts: longlife needle packings and solvent-resistant seals made of polyethylene contribute to lower maintenance costs and high availability. The desired spray jet width can be set with just one rotary knob. The gun’s low weight and ergonomic design support fatigue-free work even over longer periods. www.wagner-group.com Unbeatable option for high production volumes Cefla Finishing has recently overhauled Elispray, its well-known elliptical spray coating solution, taking productivity to a new level. Superior transfer efficiency, easier cleaning procedures and faster operation all contribute to save money and consume less lacquer and solvent. Patented solutions to enable increased productivity and reduced consumption With a selection of features that Cefla Finishing engineers have recently patented, Elispray now runs at extremely high speeds and ensures excellent transfer efficiency, reliability and reduced lacquer consumption (up to 20 % less) These improvements have been achieved thanks to: • double plenum: this directs overspray where it is needed, settling gradually on the workpieces instead of being forced down • increased belt surface: this maximises overspray recovery • new layout of suction areas: now interferes less with overspray • guns operate at lower speeds than a reciprocating machine: this allows for lower feed pressures, enabling less lacquer waste Excessive overspray becomes a thing of the past, saving filters and making them last longer. Furthermore, equipment cleaning procedures are less time-consuming than before and simpler. Elispray features a highly reliable, patented product distribution system on the guns A rinsing circuit runs right next to the seals of the lacquer delivery circuit. Conveying water or solvent, it rinses, helps detect leakage points and reduces the working temperature of the joints thereby extending seal life. Localised leakage is minimised, thereby eliminating machine downtime caused by this issue. Critical machine components can be monitored while the machine is working and maintenance can therefore be planned in advance to avoid unwanted stoppages. Also available is a patented line feeding system by means of a rotary pump. This eliminates the risks connected to the presence of a joint. Whereas the previous version had a double circuit with a rotary joint, the latest Elispray has just one single lacquer circuit. www.cefla.it 12 No. 4 • October 2021

SURFACES Excimer technology now also in 3D Coating by means of excimer technology achieves extremely matt surface effects with maximum usability and resistance. Ideal for use on parquet flooring, pieces of furniture, doors or laminates. Spray application now also enables three-dimensional workpieces to be coated, whereas it was only previously possible to coat surfaces using rollers or via curtain coating. Excimer coating involves applying a liquid lacquer material onto the desired substrate. Subsequent radiation using an excimer emitter hardens only the upper layer of the lacquer film, given its low penetration depth into the lacquer material. The resulting surface shrinkage creates folds. The lower layers remain liquid and are finally hardened using conventional UV or electron beam curing. Matt surface effects can only be obtained with traditional lacquers by adding large quantities of matting agents. This has the disadvantage that the finished surfaces only exhibit moderate chemical and mechanical resistance. Surfaces coated using excimer technology have just as extreme matt an appearance, but they obtain their matt effect by means of microscopic surface folding rather than by using a matting agent. So they are significantly more resistant to demands. The matt level can also be influenced by variation of the lacquer formulation and hardening configuration, or special surface features like antifingerprint or a soft feel can be achieved. Excimer technology can now also be used on three-dimensional components. Coating via the spraying process enables edges, milled areas and recesses to be coated at the same time. There are therefore hardly any limits when it comes to coating items with difficult geometries. UV-Excimer lacquer also scores highly in terms of surface properties as a water-based version that provides extreme matt effects, good resistance properties and no formation of glossy areas or scuffing. www.hesse-lignal.de Sustainable occupational safety with hot melt adhesives for edgebanding The adhesives manufacturer Jowat from Detmold actively contributes to the improvement in occupational health and safety in the wood and furniture industry by supplying PUR adhesives that are not subject to hazard labeling – with optimum performance and reduced costs of investment. The Jowatherm-Reaktant ® MR product family of Jowat provides a wide range of monomerreduced and therefore hazard-free PUR hot melt adhesives for all established applications in the wood and furniture industry. They are part of the “Green Adhesives” series, a comprehensive portfolio of sustainable adhesive solutions from Jowat, and have been developed to facilitate more responsible and more environment-friendly bonding processes. “We supply a wide range of products with hazard-free labeling for edgebanding, from so-called ‘all-rounders’ to premium solutions for throughfeed units and to BAZ solutions for edgebanding molded parts. Our goal is to provide our customers with a broad spectrum of alternatives to conventional PUR adhesives without compromising the adhesive performance,” explains Tim Rosenthal, Product Manager at Jowat SE. Apart from health and safety considerations, a change to monomer-reduced hot melt adhesives therefore also provides further benefits and can reduce investment and process costs. Products from this series are not subject to the forthcoming statutory training requirement under REACH. At the same time, the high initial strength and short setting times of the modern adhesives facilitate clean and efficient manufacturing processes. From the technical point of view, the change is very easy. All that is needed is a few adaptions to the settings of the existing machines. In the pursuit of sustainability with the “Green Adhesives” label, Jowat focuses not only on the adhesive itself but also on facilitating a bonding process as friendly as possible to the environment and to resources. To the adhesives expert from Detmold, a comprehensive portfolio of hazard-free, powerful PUR hot melt adhesives is therefore a consistent and major step into the future of bonding. Because enterprises can make a significant contribution to the protection of their employees with a very easy change to monomer-reduced hot melt adhesives. www.jowat.com C M Y CM MY CY CMY K WIN_2019.pdf 24 15.02.2019 13:55:48 Less energy, more power!
