MACHINING TECHNOLOGY

MACHINING TECHNOLOGY Focus on excimer technology The technological focus of the Giardina Group at now postponed Xylexpo 2020 would still have been excimer technology. "The market now recognises that we have been among the first and most convinced supporters of the potential of this technology", continued Stefano Tibè, commercial director of Giardina Group. "Most of the technologies that we will propose at Xylexpo will involve this topic and, above all, will be perfectly functional, just to demonstrate the maturity that has been achieved with this particular surface treatment. Our "Zero Gloss" drying ovens will work on surfaces painted both with roller and spray gun. These are the two great worlds of painting which we had already talked about on the occasion of the most important exhibitions in the world over the last two years. In Milan, we wanted present the latest evolutions of these techniques, especially in the case of spray painting and the creation of super opaque surfaces. Xylexpo could have been the place to present a highly innovative solution linked to the excimer treatments, that is, a drying oven with particular performances that we have been testing in recent weeks and which could represent the "ideal solution" for many painting companies", concluded Tibè. www.giardinagroup.com Panel saw and planer HO|KU|BE|MA specializes in standard machines. The company offers standardized machines in the areas of drilling, milling, sawing and planing and, through optional extensions, enables individual adaptation to the needs of the customer. These expansion options offer the customer more than a standard machine. This also applies to the latest model of the sliding table saw. The 680|200 is the successor to the 690, which is well known and established as a solid and reliable machine. The new model builds on the properties, shines with the usual PANHANS quality and is completely overhauled. In addition to the high-quality standard equipment, such as digital angular fine adjustment of the length stop, the cross slide that can be widened, the double roller carriage and the electrically driven width stop with ball screw spindle, the format saw has one property in particular for a special highlight: formerly stored on rails, work is now carried out on a roller-bearing machine. This ensures an optimal and quiet process and is also absolutely low-maintenance. As usual, the sliding table saw can shape wood, plastic or comparable materials. But the sliding table saw 680|200 from PANHANS makes this work easier with some interesting developments and is also safe, economical and userfriendly. A machine that not only combines the know-how of experienced PANHANS technicians, but was further developed according to the needs of experienced carpenters. PANHANS Planer The planing and thicknessing machine is needed when straightening crooked and sawn solid woods and then brings them to a uniform thickness. In order to parallelize the surfaces and smooth the surface for further processing, all sides are processed. PANHANS offers the possibility of processing two work steps with one machine. The (combined) surface and thicknessing machine 546|10 from PANHANS combines two work steps in one machine. The combined planing machine is designed to do both the surface and thickness planing economically with little effort. Extensive conversion work on the machine is not necessary between the individual work steps. Dual operation for both processes is possible without additional settings. The PANHANS (Combined) planer and thicknessing machine 546|10 includes many useful and work-saving functions as standard. The continuously swiveling dressing stop can be quickly and easily set to an angle between 0 ° - 45 °. The set angle is displayed on an easily readable scale. The integrated and also swiveling auxiliary stop serves as a safe hand rest for narrow workpieces. The thicknessing table of the (combined) planer and thicknessing machine 546|10 from PANHANS is mounted on four solid trapezoidal thread spindles with two additional side guides to prevent tipping. The machine is guided in parallel and is therefore designed for high loads. The absolute precision of the PANHANS machine achieves an optimal planing pattern. Such a planing image is achieved primarily by a high-quality full steel spiral knife shaft, which is optionally available as an optional accessory. Due to their pulling cut, the six spiral knife rows of the solid steel spiral knife shaft cut in significantly improved cut quality and with a longer tool life. In addition, the enormous noise reduction speaks for the investment in this type of cutting tool. A novelty from HO|KU|BE|MA shows the userfriendly control of the (combined) planer and thicknessing machine 546|10. The new touch display from PANHANS enables comfortable communication between person and machine. By touching the smooth monitor surface, program sequences and command inputs can be controlled directly. Particular emphasis is placed on intuitive and simple operation. Since there are no individual buttons and therefore no gaps, the control is largely insensitive to dust, dirt and moisture. For optimal readability, the displays work with high brightness and high contrast. All around a high-quality machine with numerous work-saving elements and functions. www.hokubema.com 14 No. 2 • May 2020

MACHINING TECHNOLOGY Using laser light for sharpening tools Sharpening specialist VOLLMER has completed its range of products with a laser-based sharpening machine. The addition of laser technology makes VOLLMER a fullliner of tool machining and completes its range of grinding and erosion machines. VOLLMER drawn on its 111 years of experience in all fields to develop the VLaser 270. Innovative kinematics ensure fast and high-precision machining of ultra-hard cutting materials, always keeping the tool in the centre of the focal point based on the C-axis. The relevant automatic settings enable unmanned use of the VLaser 270 around the clock. Thanks to the non-contact procedure, the energy from the laser allows the new VOLLMER VLaser 270 machine to sharpen the cutting edges of cutting tools which are tipped with PCD (polycrystalline diamond) or other ultra-hard materials. The laser machine completes VOLLMER‘s range of grinding and erosion machines, making the Swabian machine manufacturer a fullliner of sharpening technologies, whether rotary tools, circular saws or metal-cutting band saws. This now means as a fullliner, irrespective of which process is used, VOLLMER is always able to provide its customers with the optimum sharpening solution for their individual requirements. VLaser 270 is based on innovative VOLLMER kinematics At the core of the VLaser 270 is its fixed laser beam guidance with innovative machine kinematics. The way in which the five axes are arranged on top of each other means that the tool is always machined at the pivot point of the C axis. This makes it possible to machine tools with minimal axis movement and to ensure stable process control. At the same time, the kinematic chain enables high path accuracy, which has a positive impact on the machining accuracy and quality of the tools. The VLaser 270 can optionally be equipped with a counter point to achieve even higher concentricity. This makes the VLaser 270 the first laser machine on the market to have such a counter point. The result is a machine that is compact in size, with dimensions that are clearly defined. The VLaser 270 can be combined with the HC 4 tool change automation, which is also used for other VOLLMER machines. The VLaser 270 is very flexible, highly efficient and ensures perfect cutting edge quality. It works without making contact, without tool wear and without any significant thermal influence. This latest innovation from VOLLMER allows the customer to increase the operating life of tools and contribute to the sustainable optimisation of manufacturing processes. It is equally suitable for manufacturing and resharpening ultra-hard cutting materials. Lasers’ considerable potential VOLLMER’s laser technology can be used to optimise different processes in tool manufacturing, including the machining of chip guide notches. This involves incorporating notches behind the tool cutting edge in order to influence the cutting properties. VOLLMER also wants to use its laser machine to carry out applications such as chamfer machining and preparing cutting edges. www.vollmer-group.com Vollmer presents its VLaser 270 laser machine for the first time and shows its fullliner range, which consists of the sharpening processes grinding, eroding and lasering as well as accompanying services. The VOLLMER VLaser 270 machine‘s laser light and innovative kinematics ensure the fast and high-precision machining of tools with ultra-hard cutting materials. No. 2 • May 2020 15
