MACHINING TECHNOLOGY

MACHINING TECHNOLOGY J-Shape technology The best in softforming for every kind of profile The design and furnishing sectors are continually evolving. Modularity is increasingly a diktat, machining work is on the rise, new shapes and possibilities are added which need to be moulded and shaped with ease, and rapidity while still guaranteeing a good quality finishing. New market trends, like more complicated shapes, frame profiles which become handles, the pursuit of absolute minimalism, boxes created from elements with 45 degree profiles - to name but a few - have lead SCM, world leader in technologies for secondary wood processing, to develop a solution of softforming edgebanding which is the result of know-how excellence and solidity of a large Group, and exclusive highly reliable partner to state of the art companies around the world. “A revolutionary machine that helped me stay one step ahead of everyone in this industry”. These are the words used by the President of Tona Bathroom Furniture, Frank Shen to describe the “stefani s” edgebander. ”More than 80 % of our furniture has been designed with these handles and with our new “stefani” edgebander we have found the best solution possible“. Declaration by Josè Herrerias, Managing Director of Gamadecor, one of the brands in the Porcelanosa Grupo. In particular, on the subject of softforming and J-Shape, SCM stands out as a genuine specialist in the supply of technologies that are simple to use, but which produce results of the highest quality and which start by paying close attention to market demands. J-side: Edgebanding with a new vision for design The new “J-side” kit is a clear example of how much the SCM technologies for softforming manage to greatly optimise and simplify production processes in panel shape edgebanding. It is, in fact, a technological evolution designed by SCM to solve the problem of complex profiles because it allows for the automatic and intensive processing of those components which also require soft- forming edgebanding of the transverse sides, thus completing 100 % the processing and finishing of the component directly on the machine.. The “J-side” kit is a head for the “2M100” corner rounding unit developed with a specific feeler and tool. It permits profiling with CNC interpolation on concave panel profiles and with internal radii starting from 4.7mm. It is perfectly integrat- ed into the machine and allows rapidly adaptation of the profile to be machined from HMI, manual or automatic management of different edge thicknesses (including those with protective film) and the best possible management of the finishing continuity as best as possible (chamfered or radius) on the whole panel perimeter. The new kit also allows you to achieve results sooner than expected which are essential in terms of finishing and productivity. The important novelty is the possibility to create J-Shape profiles so that the straight edge is exactly in line with the shaped edge, without gaps or projections. With the new “J-side” kit that can be fitted onto a standard edgebander, there is no longer any need to carry out this work manually or with an additional stage: everything becomes much simpler, more rapid and better performing because all the stages can be carried out for a complete J-Shape edgebanding. Components are finally produced in continuous flow, with the panel always moving. Production volumes of up to 10.000 panels per shift can be generated (depending on the machine model/equipment used). This represents a considerable step forward to extend the creative potentials of softforming to an increasing number of companies because no other operators are needed besides the edgebander operator, no further space is required and no further logistics are necessary. It is also a highly effective solution with any kind of edge and with different thicknesses. A single investment for a vastly expanded business potential. www.scmgroup.com ”At Fratelli Minotti every design request and demand can be met thanks to individual skills and SCM technology.” 24 No. 1 • February 2020

MACHINING TECHNOLOGY WEINMANN Treff 2019 Experience. Network. Inspire. WEINMANN once again opened its doors to present the latest technologies and digital solutions for timber construction. Technical presentations and the accompanying specialist exhibition offered information on current market trends and opportunities, including latest machine technology and timber construction 4.0 - the path to the digital future. WEINMANN presented a number of new and innovative technologies for house construction at its trade fair from November 7–8. FastenerSwitch ‐ quick fastener change The newly developed quick-change system allows maximum flexibility in the selection and use of fastening devices. Four additional fastening units are available on a separate station. The fastening unit required is inserted fully automatically based on the material. The multifunction bridges uses the data record to select the required unit fully automatically. As the units no longer have to be changed manually, idle times and setup times are minimized. Longitudinally, the station needs a space of just 500 mm, meaning that the space requirement is increased only marginally. The ideal solution even for smaller businesses, to achieve high diversity in the selection of fastening units. 5-axis technology The WALLTEQ M-310 insulFill now provides a pure insulating station Visitors could also see new options in the area of 5-axis technology for element construction. The 5-axis unit increases the diversity of processing options and the areas of use ‐ free-interpolating processing of different sides is possible. Separator for loose screws WEINMANN has developed an automatic separator for loose screws when using screws as connecting elements. This separator is suitable not only for standard lengths up to 70 mm, but also for long screws, such as those with a length of 160 mm, 220 mm or 250 mm. Even longer screws are also an option. Automatic screw units are available for both the frame work station and the multifunction bridge. This increases efficiency across the entire production process. Automatic insulation with WALLTEQ M-310 insuFill The new WALLTEQ M-310 insuFill multifunction bridge enables higher performance and shorter cycle times. Integrated in production lines, it is used as a pure insulating station for applying loose insulating material. The integrated blowing plate is automatically moved to the respective space and inserts the defined quantity of insulating material. Roof and ceiling elements can also be insulated automatically ‐ the blowing plate can be rotated 90° and ensures optimal distribution of the insulation in each space, at an even density for wall, roof, ceiling and gable elements. WALLTEQ M-120 multifunction bridge - Small quantities in batch size 1 For the production of wall, roof, ceiling and gable elements, WEINMANN offers a machine that operates with maximum efficiency, even with small quantities - the WALLTEQ M-120. This multifunction bridge is equipped with holders for stapling and nailing devices and a routing unit to facilitate automatic fastening and processing of the sheathing. Openings for windows, doors and sockets, as well as free forms such as circles, curves or diagonal cuts can all be processed, resulting in finished elements with a high level of dimensional accuracy. With low acquisition costs, the WALLTEQ M-120 offers an excellent price/performance ratio and is the perfect entrylevel solution for small and medium-sized carpentry businesses. Timber construction 4.0 digital and networked Software, networking, digitalization - these topics will have a major impact on timber construction in the future. As a complete system provider, WEINMANN offers fully integrated solutions for advancing timber construction and allowing businesses to take a step toward Timber Construction 4.0. An integrated data flow and the corresponding information flow enable an efficient and flexible production process. Software is increasingly becoming the decisive factor for the benefits of machines. At the WEINMANN Treff, visitors found a wide range of new, digital products, which provide a decisive advantage in everyday work with CNC-controlled machines or automated systems. www.homag.com Fully automatic processing with a routing unit with the WALLTEQ M-120 multifunction bridge No. 1 • February 2020 25
