With its experienced professionals and modern technology, the company works to solve the complex challenges of water scarcity and quality, productivity, environment and energy. As a service provider, the French company is responsible for the operation, maintenance and servicing of all kinds of plants with solutions and services, including evaporative cooling plants. In the case described below, it is not only responsible for the technical equipment and maintenance of the plant, but also for onsite technical service in the event of system failures or process malfunctions. In the area of evaporative cooling systems, chemical biocides are used to disinfect the cooling towers. The use of biocides is necessary to free the interior of the cooling towers from naturally accumulating legionella and to disinfect the cooling water. A solenoid driven metering pump from ProMinent has been used for years to feed the chemicals. SUEZ employees who check and adjust the settings of the pumps on site to ensure the hygienic operation of the evaporative cooling systems, have been exposed to high risks during every operation up to now. Therefore, the French service company has decided to increasingly rely on an intelligent metering pump with integrated Bluetooth module. The proven bestseller impresses with its operator-friendliness, an integrated pressure measurement and precise metering performance. The pump has an integrated Bluetooth module that enables remote control of the pump using its own app. All that employees need is an Apple or Android-based mobile device (smartphone or tablet) and the free app from the pump manufacturer. What does the mobile app do? With the support of the app, service technicians can easily control the solenoid driven metering pump via smartphone from a safe distance. The mobile app allows central access to all data of the connected devices. This means that the current performance data of the system can be called up remotely, settings can be adjusted in real time or the delivery rate and metering quantity can be regulated directly. Efficient and secure: service processes with app The use of the mobile app not only increased safety for their service technicians, but also made the previously complex and time-consuming process considerably more efficient. Before using the intelligent pump, the service company first had to set up an action and safety plan in the event of a service call or fault/problem message and have it approved by the operator of the plant before a service technician could make his way to the plant. On site, the service technician had to identify himself, register at the plant and put on suitable protective clothing. Only after this was access granted. Now the service technician read out the pump values and settings and recorded them manually. After removing the protective clothing and leaving the plant, the manually recorded data then had to be transferred into a digital report. Result For more than one year now, the French company has been using the proven solenoid driven metering pump with Bluetooth function for the safe and precise metering of biocides in evaporative cooling systems. Thanks to the innovative pump control via app, the service company was able to make the previously complex and time-consuming process significantly more efficient and to considerably shorten the operating and maintenance processes at serviced plants, thus saving time and costs. At the same time, safety for its own employees was increased and the risk during each service operation was significantly reduced. Additional safety thanks to Bluetooth connectivity Generally, in any application where hazardous chemicals are processed, pumps should be equipped with an appropriate safety cover to protect employees. Making changes to the pump settings or viewing the current performance data in these applications is always associated with a high safety risk for the service technician.
