Energy/Energy efficiency On our own behalf New Magazine „Green Efficient Technologies“ Prof. Dr.-Ing. Eberhard Schlücker The north pole pump that keeps the Gulf Stream alive is stuttering, the jet stream’s amplitude has already increased and it is wandering somewhat farther north, animate nature is suffering and resources are getting scarce. Thus we are long since in the midst of distorting global interrelations, with consequences that are not yet foreseeable. Meanwhile it is clear to just about everyone that all this is caused by our behaviour and, in particular, also by the established technologies, and that sustainable changes over the medium term are our only chance. To make matters worse, our numbers on this planet continue to increase and every human being causes entropy. On a positive note, a variety of activities can be observed in many places and a lot of technology already exists. Implementation, comprehensive concepts or simply the will of those in charge are most often lacking, but also a goaloriented focus of research and development. What we need is a green industrial revolution! Green hydrogen has become a buzzword. However, agriculture and energy- efficient production are also called green when they are sustainable. Unfortunately, far too few technological achievements are sustainable and optimised for energy efficiency today. They continue contributing to manoeuvring us into an even more critical situation that constitutes a danger to humanity as a whole. All of our technology, industry and society should – or actually must – become “green”. This applies in particular to all processes and industries that consume energy and raw materials, but also to many application products and production facilities and their sustainability. There is no doubt that this transformation is complex and should not proceed in contrary directions. Information and concepts are therefore needed. Which is exactly the reason for the new “Green Efficient Technologies” magazine. We want to accompany you on your journey to more sustainability, providing you with useful information and concept ideas along with insights into green technologies as well as efficient technological products and processes. Not least, we also want to present new ideas based on research. There is one thing we are certain of: This green industrial revolution is a great opportunity for a better world. But time is short and the changes must be implemented correctly. No doubt this is a Herculean task and will also cost a lot of money. Against the background of additional costs for the pandemic and the military, this is an even bigger challenge. Spending the money properly is therefore essential. Naturally, the energy supply comes first. It needs to be converted or expanded to electricity and hydrogen as resources, and in some countries also nuclear technology. When the latter is viewed as a bridging technology, the energy of the future requires land area. But we also want that for food and recreation. Efficiency is therefore key! Efficiency in energy generation, transformation and use, but also efficiency in the processes for the food chain, logistics and consumer goods, which must go hand in hand with habitat protection. Of course we also need resource management that produces little to no waste. Nothing is left out and everything is connected. We are therefore talking about completely different consumer behaviour, about a new and sustainable industry and society. Those are exactly the topics we want to address in “Green Efficient Technolo gies”.
