Pumps/Vacuum technology

Pumps/Vacuum technology Companies – Innovations – Products Reduction of operating costs through the use of ABEL HM pumps A plant for cleaning contaminated mineral soil and other mineral waste is operated by the German soil and waste recycling company “GBAV” (in German: Gesellschaft für Boden- und Abfallverwertung mbH) in the South of Berlin. Environmentally friendly disposal of the contaminated soil that is excavated during construction is a top priority of the company’s treatment process Another focus is on saving resources and protecting the environment by recycling the soil after it has been cleaned and reusing it, for example, as a secondary raw material in road and path construction. The washing procedure of contaminated mineral materials consists of a multistage water-based mechanical process. In the first step, the contaminants contained in the soil are mobilized by adding water and subsequently, they are separated by sorting and screening devices. Fig. 3: Use of ABEL HMD pumps in filter press feed applications The challenge posed to ABEL pumps In order to increase the efficiency of the sludge dewatering process and to reduce the costs for the transport of the highly abrasive sludge, the plant operators were looking for innovative solutions for their three filter press lines. Adapted to the customer’s needs, a frequency-controlled ABEL diaphragm pump, type HMD-G-32-0250, was selected in 2018. This special pump type is characterised by a moulded diaphragm and the pressure balanced membrane position control. Compared to the former progressive cavity pumps installed at GBAV, that required two pumps per feed line, the use of the ABEL hydraulic diaphragm pump required that GBAV use only one pump per filter press feed line. The ecological contribution of ABEL Pumps In conclusion, one hydraulic diaphragm pump can replace two progressive cavity pumps reducing the need for spare parts and maintenance. The total savings has already facilitated the achievement of a significant operating cost reduction of approximately EUR 20k during the first year of operation. In the meantime, three HMD pumps and one filter cloth cleaning pump made by ABEL have been put into operation at GBAV and are contributing to a sustainable and environmentally friendly recycling economy. Since the GBAV soil washing plant has been commissioned in 1993, an impressive 4.5 million tons mineral waste and 1.3 million tons of street sweeping waste have been decontaminated. The system allows for pump operation via local control as well as monitoring of the operating conditions via the sensors applied to the pump, thus enabling predictive maintenance. gard to the development of the HMI (Human-Machine Interface). As customary nowadays, the design became minimalistic. A variety of new pictograms was designed to enable intuitive operation, rendering the system almost language independent. Established options, such as crankshaft coupling for optimum phase shift in multi-pump operation, or the PULSATROL, which controls the optimum filling of the pulsation dampeners, are fully integrated. In addition to the above-mentioned optimisations, new functionalities were also integrated. The system includes features such as a digital name plate, storage of operating data and a so-called maintenance module, which provides information on upcoming maintenance and records the operating time of typical wear parts in a data bank. This enables both the operating staff as well as the FELUWA service technician to get an idea of the performance of the pump over a long period of time. In view of the digitisation of industrial processes, the newly developed system already meets the requirements of OPC UA (open platform communications united architecture). FELUWA is involved in the setup of the new interface for the pump section which will become the norm for data exchange for industrial communication and is independent of manufacturer, programming language or operating system of the application. At your service around the globe User Interface FELUWA Pump Condition Guard (PCG) Smart Our applications are unlimited. Furthermore, a cloud connection is being developed in the context of the Internet of Things (IoT). The operating data of the pumps is stored in the cloud and checked for anomalies using KI algorithms. The cloud system is based on the concept of closed feedback loops, which enable bi-directional flow of data between the actual pump operation and development. By using analytics, important information (“digital twins”) can be extrapolated from the raw data (the real application) and thus be applied to optimise products and production processes in the next innovation cycle. Hence, the optimisation of the Pump Condition Guard SMART contributes to more efficient pump condition monitoring and ensures stable and reliable operation as well as predictive maintenance. You will find our pumps and cleaning systems around the globe. Also in your industry. Your project is our motivation. Our dedication to high pressure uncovers new applications all the time.
