PetFood PRO is the international magazine for executives and specialists in the manufacture of food for domestic animals – the pet food industry. The magazine focuses on food and delicacies for dogs, cats and other small animals, ornamental birds and fish, as well as animals kept in terrariums. We publish feature articles, reports and announcements about new ingredients, technology, equipment and processes, packaging machinery and materials as well as marketing trends and developments. SHOWCASE Sandra Tanner, DOSOMAT Management Assistant What is the special attraction of this network for you? We are manufacturer of filling- and closing machines, especially for wet pet food. We hope to get more customers and inquiries and with this network, we can offer the complete solution from raw product until final packaging. Which advantages are to be expected through the PetFood Competence Network a) for the companies involved and b) for the producers of pet food? A) We have a better overview on the timeline of the entire plant to be delivered, we can adjust perfectly the connection points of the different machines, as we are in deep contact with all participating companies. Easier communication between the different suppliers. B) The producers have one main contact for all open questions, the clarification/communication between the different suppliers is more easy also for the customer. What demands do pet food manufacturers make on suppliers to this industry? Is it different for raw materials, equipment or packaging manufacturers? Reliable machine, trouble-free production without stops and with less necessary maintenance and service. What are the qualifications to be a successful producer of pet food? Very flexible customized machines to fill different cup/pouch/ can sizes on one machine and different product consistencies, short change-over times of different formats. How has the pet food market changed in the last few years? (5 to 10 years) More pet food in pouches. Pet food variety is greater. What changes have you noticed when looking at raw materials and ingredients for pet food? Optic of packaging plays more and more a significant role. Single-serve packaging (such as pouches) becomes more and more popular. What expectations do consumers or pet parents have in pet food? How has this changed in the last five to ten years? Optic and quality of pet food and pet food packaging becomes more and more important. “Optic sells”. What will be the biggest challenges in the production and packaging of pet food in the next five years? “Easy-to-handle” packaging, single-serve packaging. 34 Technology & Marketing
