editorial Score with creativity The heart of metal working beats in Stuttgart! Eric Schäfer editor-in-chief The year 2020 will - as is already foreseeable - be a challenge for the global economy and thus also for the machine tool and the machine tool industry and its customers. Growth will be modest worldwide, if not declining in many places. But difficult times are always an opportunity to reinvent oneself and to score points with innovations and creative solutions. First results of these creative efforts can be seen at GrindTec 2020, the World Trade Fair for Grinding Technology. Although grinding technology is also closely connected with the automotive and mechanical engineering industries, the overall market for grinding applications is still strong. One can certainly expect trend-setting processes and advanced technologies from the exhibitors at the trade fair. In this issue we will give you a preview of what the manufacturers will present at GrindTec. We are particularly looking forward to the world premiere of the laser machine from the sharpening specialist Vollmer. The further development of additive manufacturing is a topic for the future, which we also turn our attention to in this issue. We report on the possibilities that additive manufacturing offers cutting tool manufacturers. It is equally interesting how the limits of additive manufacturing are being pushed back by new metal powders and components. Furthermore, we inform you about new manufacturing solutions in medical technology, report on the cost-efficient series production of turbochargers and present powerful tools for the production of electric motors. Don't forget to visit our website www.harnisch.com and pick up the news between this and our next issue of journal of hp tooling! ORDER YOUR TICKET NOW!
