machining center The

machining center The CHIRON Group prepares for future growth Brand new machining centers The continued rise in revenue places the CHIRON Group, a specialist in CNC vertical milling and turning machining centers, on solid ground. At 65 % the revenue share of the European market in 2017 was similar to that of the previous year. America and Asia contributed 21 and 14 % respectively to the Group’s revenue. The CHIRON Group can see particular potential for future growth in China, and is preparing itself accordingly by building a new factory in Taicang. In 2017, standard machines accounted for the highest revenue share at 36 %, closely followed by turnkey orders at 34 % and services at 30 %. In terms of incoming orders in 2017, the automotive industry retained its position from the previous year as the strongest industrial segment at 63 %. The mechanical engineering sector accoun ted for 16 %, medical and precision engineering for 6 %, and tool manufacture for 4 %. Aerospace was responsible for revenues of 3 %. With huge investments of over € 10 million in the new factory in Taicang (China) and over € 30 million in the Precision Factory in Neuhausen ob Eck (Germany) the CHIRON Group is well-prepared for its planned growth. “Our solid financial basis and the longterm approach of our owners has allowed us to take these giant steps forward into the future”, explained Dr. Markus Flik. CHIRON FZ16 S Potential for growth in the chinese market The two factories are at the core of the CHIRON Group’s location strategy. Production is planned to begin in Taicang (China) in the first half of 2019. This will triple the local production capacity. The Group has firmly established itself in China as a supplier of high-quality machining solutions. China is showing a stable trend toward high-quality, highly automated machining centers. This is due to the rising standards of quality and the incipient shortage of specialist personnel. The greatest potential for growth is found in the automotive, medical engineering and aerospace industries. The CHIRON Group will produce CHIRON, STAMA and SCHERER machines in Taicang, as well as expan ding its local turnkey range. CHIRON DZ16 W World premiere for three new machining centers The CHIRON Group presented three brand new innovations at AMB 2018: The CHIRON FZ16 S five-axis, the CHIRON DZ16 W and the STAMA MT 733 two. These innovative machining centers have a gantry design, uniting dynamics with precision and high cutting forces in a way that has never been seen before. Customers with special requirements for five-axis machining will find in the single- 46 no. 1, April 2019

machining center spindle CHIRON FZ16 S five-axis a machine that impresses with top levels of dynamics and rigidity to ensure high productivity. If large quantities are involved, the double-spindle CHIRON DZ16 W produces complex parts with optimum preci sion. The new 733 series from STAMA machines all six sides of a workpiece on a single five-axis center. The optimized rigidity facilitates the machining of complex or difficult-to-machine workpieces. These can now be milled and turned with extra-high levels of accuracy with the MT 733. Enhanced range of software solutions for digital manufacturing Software systems for digital manufacturing have long been a part of the range of services offered by the CHIRON Group, and are a key growth driver. The interaction between machine and software gives rise to inte grated software solutions that enable customers to utilize the potential of digital manufacturing. These are brought together in the modular SmartLine range. The DataLine, ProcessLine and RemoteLine modules, which have already been successfully launched, optimize productivity and quality in machining. The CHIRON Group added three further modules in 2018: TouchLine, ConditionLine and ProtectLine. The CHIRON Group perfects its market profiles The Group is using the recent development of platforms for future series to perfect the profiles of CHIRON and STAMA. Productivity and precision are key market attributes of both brands when it comes to CNC vertical milling and milling/turning machining centers. The CHIRON brand is also known for excellent dynamics, while STAMA focuses on stability. This enables high cutting forces when working with high-strength materials that are difficult to machine. Thanks to their gantry design, both platforms are characterized by particularly high static, dynamic and thermal rigidity. This enables CHIRON and STAMA to use their highly developed turnkey skills to optimize existing manufacturing solutions and to tap into new markets. Precision Factory is the most high-tech machine tool factory in Europe The most high-tech machine tool factory in Europe is currently under CHIRON’s future Precision Factory construction near Tuttlingen, Germany – it is CHIRON’s Precision Factory in Neuhausen ob Eck. The site of around 14,000 m 2 will be the future home of production for the new series 16 and existing series 15 and 18 machining centers. The temperature of the Precision Factory will be optimally regulated by means of component activation, which will facilitate the high precision of these machining centers. In addition, advanced solutions for digitalizing assembly and intralogistical processes will be in use. The CHIRON Group is investing over € 30 million in the factory, which has been designed to produce 450 machines per year and will open in autumn 2019. further information: www.chiron.de KREBS & RIEDEL Schleifscheibenfabrik GmbH & Co.
