materials tools Fine grooves in massive materials thanks to the new nesting shank-type cutters Challenges of MDF and multiplex boards Three new diamond-tipped nesting LEUCO shank-type cutters are especially designed for machining multiplex and MDF panels. Diamond-tipped, high performance shank-type tools are commonly used for nesting. These triple- tooth cutting tools (Z=3+3) can handle feed speeds of 25 m/min and more for particle boards. How - ever, if very dense or very hard ma - terials are machined, such as MDF or multiplex boards, the situation changes noticeably. The volume of the chip material produced by the cut MDFs increases dramati cally, which means that the chip gullet in the tool quickly fills up, thus producing more cutting pressure and friction. This, in turn, generates heat, reduces the tool’s edge life and may even cause the loss of teeth. The new nesting shanktype cutter range from LEUCO featuring double-edge tools is a true problem-solver for such applications. The number of teeth Z=2+2 leads to an increased gullet volume. This guarantees that chip evacuation goes more smoothly, The expanded diamond-tipped nesting shank-type cutter range Z=2+2 meets the special challenges of MDF and multiplex boards as well as similar wood materials literally. New additions to the DP nesting cutter product family include tools with 12-mm and 16-mm cutting diameters and cutting lengths for common panel thicknesses. further information: www.leuco.com One tool performs multiple applications New multi-functional tool The Nine9 NC Helix Drill is an innovation of drill in cutting tool field. It is not only working like a drill but also like an end mill – maximum ramping angle of 20°, small path radius to cut holes, counter sink holes, various shapes of cavity on different materials. Also it can easily drill deep holes in different diameters by just using one tool. Less inventory of different sizes of drills and indexable end mills. NC Helix Drill is truly a multi-functional tool which is capable of helical interpolation for milling, slotting, and drilling. Small cutting load, low spindle power and special serrated cutting edge help to generate an inclined hole while maintaining an accurate diameter and straightness, also leads to a higher surface finish. The ability of NC Helix Drill is to work quicker, smarter; this has made them best for reducing the operation. Additionally, the machines have higher productivity because it shortens the cycle time and eliminates the changeovers. further information: www.jic-tools.com.tw 20 no. 1, April 2019

tools materials From large to small, from individual production to series production Extract from the Leitz Technology Innovations 2019 As the technology and world market leader, Leitz will once again be presenting technical innovations and additions to its range at this year’s Ligna in Hanover under the motto “Solutions in new dimensions”. New dimensions means that the specialists from Oberkochen will translate their industry knowledge from more than 140 years and their knowledge of customers’ needs into high-performance and forward-looking tool concepts. For users of Leitz products, this means an increase in productivity, more efficiency in work pro cesses, conscious and careful handling of resources and employees as well as a particularly high flexi bility in use. Just in time for Ligna, Leitz opens a new chapter in the success story of the ProfilCut product family. Leitz developed the latest members of the family under the name ProfilCut Q Plus and ProfilCut Q Premium Plus with re sharpenable, diameter and profile-constant cutting edges espe cially for the window construction industry and also for companies that process solid wood, plastic or MDF panels. The incentive for these new developments was the manufacturing costs due to the use of disposable knives for profiling. The Leitz solution is a tool system, which, like all ProfilCut tools, convinces above all by its high productivity. Due to the high speeds, large quantities of material can be processed quickly and cleanly. A further advantage is the high efficiency of the system, which significantly minimizes setting and set-up times due to its diameter accuracy after sharpening. The new compact hogger generation is ideally suited for batch size one production as well as for processing large quantities in furniture production. Changing quantities, the increasing variety of decorative finishes for furniture surfaces and the increasing proportion of waste wood in panel production pose ever grea ter c ha l len ges for manufacturing compa nies. Fast wearing cutting edges and the low machining quality are the conseq u e n c e s which also Leitz ProfilCut Q: more profit on all levels photo: Leitz push production to its Low weight, quiet, efficient – the expanded Leitz HeliCut system photo: Leitz limits here. The new Leitz compact hogger is the solution for increasing productivity thanks to its longer service life and increased efficiency thanks to guaranteed constant cutting width. In addition, the resharpenability is also a great advantage from an eco nomic point of view and the optimized chip collection increases productivity due to shorter machine downtimes, reduces dirt on the plate and extends tool life. In addition, the tool design has been modified in such a way that a signi ficant noise reduction can be measured. A further innovation of this year’s Ligna is the swivelling bevel cutterhead with exchangeable cutting systems. Due to the increasing variety of materials used in the construction of buildings and interiors, the tools are subject to high stresses. This can be seen above all in an excessively large variety of tools required, fast wearing cutting edges and correspondingly low cutting quality. In small or me diumsized companies, the resulting tool or material costs often make production a tightrope walk in economic terms. This makes the choice of the right tool all the more important. The new Leitz solution offers users several possibilities to optimally coordinate their tooling requirements. The use of a cutting edge concept adapted to the workpiece (HeliCut carbide cutting edges and Whispercut diamond cutting edges) as well as the possibility of exchanging individual cutting edges depending on wear makes production much more flexible. This enables the resource-saving processing of different materials such as solid wood, panel materials or abrasive plastics. The high quality of the tearfree edges, even with sensitive decors, also speaks for the tool system. Efficient working is another advantage, that comes into effect with the new bevel cutterhead, as timeconsuming adjustment work is no longer necessary. A further advantage is that although angles can be adjusted steplessly from a flexibility point of view, the most common machining angles can be fixed quickly and without tools with predefined stop positions. further information: www.leitz.org no. 1, April 2019 21
